A basic two light setup with one big key light and one fill light became quite difficult due to the space, so i used one key light sb600 with umbrella in shoot through mode, one sb600 against the back wall for seperation and one 120cm silver reflector clamped to the outer side to fill the shadows from the main fill. In our test shootings additional room lights were on, which we assumed stayed on hehe. not really. I would also take a more dynamic position myself, handholding the camera walking arround and changing perspective.

The gala started at 10:00, and ofcourse, one hour before arrival everthing was pitch black upstairs (nice, no AF). We managed to get a stage light up and pointed it abit towords the ceiling, only available in 4 different colors. This helped me with the auto- focus. Because the main light was so close (nice for wrapping the light for portraits!!), group pictures on the other hand were quite difficult due to the small space for placing the main light in. Dancefloor smoke and lights came in as well, and especially the smoke became troubling as soon as i distance myself for larger group photo’s, as the light setup was so close!. I didn’t want to shoot RAW as the D80′s buffer is not that big, so i have to fix some WB stuff in post.

The main focus for me was to get in contact with the people, so that they look great on camera no matter what!! instead of zombies placed in front of a thingy with fancy flashes. As my first suggestion to the committie, kind of fashion photography styl really turned out nice! In total, 150 people came so i was quite busy from 10:00 – 01:00, but hey you need to do something     I think everyone looks great on camera (archievement 1), really relaxed en happy. In terms of technical aspects, the larger groups were just not duable in that space. You dont want wide angle lenses for that, and the “sort of” backdrop we used was limited in width. I was happy enough everybody was within the shot (archievement 2). Portraits and small groups  turned quite awesome, very dramatic look! and quite my styl! (archievement 3).I think the additional grungy look in post made these pictures different then the average gala stuff you see.

It was pritty cool to do, with a larger space and probably a Nikon D4/D800 for higher ISO performance it could turned out even better, but this is what we had At the end of this evening i shot 1022 pictures, and my new Eneloop flash batteriess were still strong! Awesome. My D80 has now over more than 25000 shots made, so within one year or so it really comes close to the average amount of shutter actuations before that stops working (43,000). Time to save for D800 perhaps..

Video promo has been presented at the master thesis defence on April 20th at the University of Twente.

The new management crew of TC Ludica asked me to do a photoshoot for them. Including some group shots and indivitual portraits. We went out on November 22th starting early in the morning. The strategy was to end up with four or five different locations, so that we had more options to choose from in the end. After four hours of taking pictures, walking to each location and setting up the gear, I ended up with 16 selected pictures. Most of the shots were taken with the Tokina 11-16mm 2.8 ATX and the Nikon 50mm 1.8

Take a citroen 2CV convertable with the top down and mount a tripod steady on the place where the back seat used to be. Secure the camera, with multiple layers of protection against the elements and of you go! One lap will take as much as 20 minutes, but ofcourse we have our reputation to hold so get on with some disco house music and speed it up to three minutes! Enjoy

Gear: Panasonic HMC151 EJ AVCHD cam. Rode NTG1 microphone, greenscreen with multiple ceiling lights, one lightstand with 35″ umbrella in shoot through mode with 500 watt light.

We started in January, where i published the Promotional video for the Equine Performance Centre, Vetsuisse Faculty, University of Zurich. This production went paralell with my internship and research at their centre. The video scored over more then 6000 hits, numerous blogposts and facebook pages related to the video. The best blogpost in my point of view was from Fran Jurga’s hoofcare blog. She included the video in a larger story involving Clinical Gait Analysis among horses and the importance of it. She also briefly explaines the setup at the University and why it is neccerary to have it like that.

The internship and research at the Vetsuisse Faculty was noticed at the University, and soon enough the University News people interviewed me for an article. “Data vertalen naar een plaatje”, by Sandra Pool, published: “02-03-2011″, magazine  07, 2011. You can view it HERE

In March 2011, i documented the Connect and Drive project for DACS letting cars communicatie with each other by the implementation of  Cooperative Adaptive Cruise Control. The Demo of The Connect And Drive 01 Demo took place at RDW test track Lelystad from 16-03-2011 till 18-03-2011 with final demo at 18th. The Photo’s i made that week were published in ““De Ingenieur” Technical Magazine“, 5th edition, may 2011. The Connect and Drive video’s were used in multiple seminars and presentations.

Our new “Ultimate80s radio show (by me, Dr. Nash and Walt)” at Uradio studio’s started in february and was mentioned by Ingrid Szwajcer in the University news paper of march 2011, 9th edition. The photo of us three were taken by. You can read the article HERE

In September, Campus Ninja IV went into premiere. The producer, Arashi’s martial art department, asked me to direct and film this budget movie with the script they provided. It was a very interesting project (WATCH HERE), and it was mentioned in the newspaper HERE, University news, edition 23 2011

From febraury till now, i worked on my graduation project at the Roessingh Research and Development centre, worked on the post analysis of the data from Zurich and finishing multiple video and music projects.  The finished products are allready in sight, but need some time before they can be made public. When they are ready, we can get some serious attention!! Wait and see
